Rockford City Council introduced a potential new senior center

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Northwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging proposed a partnership looking for funding support for a new senior center.

“It’s intended to be a place where our older adults and their caregivers can come for socialization. There will be educational programs geared towards the older adults, physical activities to help them strengthen their bodies and help them remain in their homes for as long as possible,” said Jeff Barnes, Executive Director of the Northwestern Illinois Area Agency for Aging. The new center would be located on East State Street.

The funding partnership would be between the City or Rockford and the State of Illinois. It would be a $100,000 per year for a three-year commitment from the City of Rockford to establish this service for the senior population. “We stand on the shoulders of those who’ve come before us. And so, I think that making this investment should be a priority for those here and my colleagues here on City council.
