Rockford police uncover firearms with altered serial numbers, make arrests

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Detectives with Rockford Police’s Gang and Narcotics Units arrested two men in an investigation that resulted in the seizure of a handgun and a rifle, each with defaced serial numbers.

Rockford Police said detectives first arrested Clarence Jones, 20, in the 600 block of W. State Street. Jones was wanted on outstanding warrants for his arrest, police said.

He was charged with an outstanding warrant for unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, a new charge of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, no valid Firearm Owners Identification, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number…
