Rockford schools project $13M budget deficit as leaders outline next steps

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Rockford Public Schools leaders projected a more than $13 million budget shortfall for the 2027 fiscal year, as early budget discussions began during Tuesday night’s school board meeting.

“The federal money is still very uncertain,” said Chief Financial Officer Dr. Greg Brown. “Congress is actually back. They have taken up a number of bills to actually address spending through the rest of the federal fiscal year, but they still have not tackled the education part of the federal budget.”
