Rockford travelers to benefit from Allegiant and Sun Country Airlines merger

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A major airline merger announced this week may open the door to more vacation destinations for northern Illinois travelers who rely on Chicago Rockford International Airport.

Allegiant and Sun Country Airlines have agreed to merge in a $1.5 billion deal that would create a combined airline serving 22 million passengers a year and operating nearly 650 routes nationwide.

Allegiant is already one of RFD’s dominant carriers, offering nonstop flights to Florida, Arizona, and other popular seasonal destinations.
