ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – No criminal charges will be filed in the June 2025 death of a Winnebago County jail inmate, according to the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office.
On Jan. 19, Winnebago County State’s Attorney J. Hanley released a statement that the death of Ruben Yanez was not caused, recklessly or otherwise, by an employee of the jail.
Investigators report Yanez was found unresponsive, but breathing, in his jail cell on June 27, 2025. He was taken to a local hospital where he died the next day…
