FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Bitter cold for foreseeable future, snow chances this weekend

  • Dangerously cold wind chills Friday
  • Bone-chilling weather to last through the weekend
  • Snow chances Saturday night into Sunday

(WIFR) – I’m happy to report that the coldest air has moved out of the region. Wind chills dropped to -38 degrees in Rockford with Galena the coldest spot with wind chills bottoming out near near -41 degrees.

While we won’t have to face that low of wind chill this afternoon and evening, we’re still in line for a frigid rest of our day. Wind chills will be close to 25 to 30 degrees below zero this afternoon even with ample sunshine. At these wind chills, frostbite can develop on any exposed skin in 20 minutes or less. Make sure to dress warm if you have to head outside at all the rest of the day.
