Beloit school board sets special meeting on literacy proposal

BELOIT — The School District of Beloit Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting Tuesday to discuss for a third time a proposed pilot literacy program that would be funded by the Hendricks Family Foundation.

In mid-December, Lisa Furseth, the foundation executive director, told the board that the foundation is offering $2.5 million for a three-year pilot literacy program at one of the district’s elementary schools.

Furseth said the foundation wanted to move quickly and launch the program at one Beloit elementary school, but she asked for unanimous backing from the school board for the literacy program…
