Winnebago County closes door on unchecked solicitation with new law

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A knock on the door perks the ears of those on the Winnebago County board.

“It’s that initial uncertainty people have,” described Paul Arena, R-District 7. “Nobody likes to be disturbed during their dinner.”

Members unanimously approved restrictions on “door-to-door solicitation” at Thursday night’s meeting. The ordinance states its purpose as “to protect the County’s residents from undue harassment and unreasonable infringements of their privacy and also to prevent crime and fraud.”…
