South Beloit names Brian Kunce as new fire chief amid department turmoil

SOUTH BELOIT, Wis. (WTVO) — The City of South Beloit has selected Brian Kunce as its new fire chief.

City Administrator Sonya Hoppes confirmed Kunce’s appointment on Wednesday. The move comes after weeks of instability in the department, marked by a sudden resignation, financial concerns, and ongoing efforts to rebuild the city’s fire services.

Kunes steps into the role following the abrupt departure of former Fire Chief Scott Fisher, who resigned on January 13, only a week after being sworn in. Fisher said he decided to “pre-retire” to Alaska after decades in public safety, telling city leaders: “Life is too short, I have decided to spend more time working in and experiencing Alaska.”…
