WINNEBAGO CO., Ill. (WIFR) – The Winnebago County Board approved funding for new portable radios for public safety Thursday night, despite allegations from a former deputy chief questioning how the equipment was initially handled.
Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana says the radios are critical for public safety and officer safety, noting the current equipment is at the end of its lifespan. The radios were last purchased from Motorola Solutions in 2016.
“We have radios that are coming end to life and not going to be serviced, and it troubles me to know that sometimes they can’t get out; they (radios) have problems, so we are going to put them in immediately, starting tomorrow,” said Caruana…
