Illinois has a reputation for bad driving, which I usually think is unfair, until I see video proof of drivers behaving recklessly on roads and highways throughout the state.
Things Not to Do When Driving in Illinois
I’m not going to sit here and say I am the world’s best driver, but there are some things you should never do behind the wheel in Illinois:
- You should never treat dodging potholes like a game of Mario Kart. It’s not safe for anyone on the road.
- You should never panic when the first snowflake falls. Illinois drivers should know how to drive in snow by now, but many people tend to forget. Going 20mph when every other driver is going the speed limit isn’t overly cautious; it can be dangerous.
- You should never tailgate a truck without mud flaps, unless you like having your windshield cracked.
- You should never use the shoulder of the road to pass a car going too slow in the left lane.

Last week, video of a Rockford Auto Parts van on I-90 went viral for reckless driving, but I was surprised by how some people reacted.
