ROCKFORD — The city is extending a property tax rebate that helped spur homebuilding over the past two years.
City Council members voted 14-0 on Monday to approve the extension of a three-year property tax rebate on newly built homes, townhomes, duplexes, three-family units and multi-family structures. The program started in 2024 and was previously extended through 2025. Now it will cover homes built in 2026, too.
The rebate approved by City Council only applies to the city’s portion of a tax bill. Rockford Public Schools, Winnebago County government and other taxing bodies are also being asked to participate.
