Rockford man convicted in fatal parking lot shootout

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Jason Bryant, one of four suspects accused of killing a man in a shootout in a Rockford business parking lot in 2024, has been convicted of the crime.

Bryant, 30, pled guilty to First Degree Murder on March 10. He was sentenced to spend 10 years in prison, with credit for a year and three months served.

Chase Higgins, 27, was shot multiple times after what police said was a fight at an after-hours event in the 6600 block of E. State Street. Police said a shootout ensued prior to 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 24th, and Higgins was killed…
