Former Sweet Basil Cafe to be razed in spring to make way for Club Car Wash

CHERRY VALLEY — The former Sweet Basil Cafe is expected to be demolished this spring to make way for a new Club Car Wash at the corner of Harrison Avenue and Perryville Road.

The company is awaiting an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency inspection for asbestos before moving forward with demolition, which is expected to start in mid-April, according to Village Administrator Jim Claeyssen. He said once the restaurant is razed, it’s estimated to take roughly 10 months for construction of the car wash.

Sweet Basil Cafe, 2408 S. Perryville Road, announced its closure last June after four years in business. The site was also previously home to TGI Fridays, which closed in December 2019…
