Rockford launches St. Patrick’s Day crackdown on impaired driving

Rockford police are planning extra patrols and a safety campaign ahead of St. Patrick’s Day to curb impaired driving.

The Rockford Police Department is joining forces with the Illinois State Police and Illinois Department of Transportation for a traffic safety campaign from March 13 through 6 a.m. March 23, according to a community announcement.

Patrol focus: impaired driving, seat belt use

During the campaign, police will be on the lookout for drivers impaired by alcohol, cannabis or other drugs, including prescription medications that can affect driving. Officers will also increase seat belt enforcement, especially at night when seat belt usage tends to drop. Speeding, distracted driving and compliance with all traffic laws will be strictly enforced.
