Auburn Street improvements project start date delayed to March 23 in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Work on the Auburn Street Improvements Project (Phase 1) will now begin on Monday, March 23, after recent weather conditions delayed the original March 17 start date, according to city officials.

Construction limits for this phase will run from Central Avenue to Avon Street and from Horsman Street to Main Street. One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open throughout the project, and all side streets and business entrances will stay accessible. However, drivers should expect significant delays in the area.

The project includes major utility and roadway work, including new water main installation, lead service line replacements, new sidewalk on the north side, and a multi‑use path on the south side.
