ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A Rockford area health care company announces some of its emergency response vehicles will begin carrying blood.
Mercyhealth’s MD-1 Emergency Response Program vehicles will be the first in the area to be equipped with blood, allowing EMS to perform potentially life-saving blood transfusions at the scene.
Despite the evolution of modern trauma systems, hemorrhage remains the leading cause of preventable death in trauma. By bringing blood to the patient—rather than waiting for the patient to reach the hospital—we’ll be able to begin lifesaving treatment immediately. This program has the potential to dramatically improve outcomes and save lives.
