ROCKFORD — A family-owned restaurant that has served Chicagoland with hearty gorditas and other savory Mexican dishes for more than two dozen years is coming to Rockford’s Midtown.
Las Gorditas de Don Angel has purchased a building at 215-217 Seventh St., which is south of First Avenue. The family is preparing to make renovations to open what will be its ninth location and furthest from Chicagoland. The goal is to open by June, provided renovations progress as planned.
Owner Esteban Perez, who runs the restaurant with his wife, Jazmin Chacon, said the move to Rockford came because of demand from customers. Many would travel from Rockford to their location in Elgin or the family’s first Chicagoland restaurant in Cicero…
