ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A $14 million project to reconstruct Auburn Street in Rockford begins Monday, March 23.
Drivers will notice construction zones from Central Avenue to Avon Street and Horsman to Main streets. The city says drivers can expect one lane in each direction open at all times, driveways to remain accessible and businesses to stay open.
From March to July, crews will work on the south side of the street and then shift work in August and September to the north side. Final resurfacing and restoration will be done from October to November.
Drivers are reminded to pay attention to construction workers and obey all posted construction signs.
The first phase of the Auburn Street Improvements project includes installing a new water main and lead service line replacement, a new sidewalk on the north side and a new multi-use path on the south side. The road will also downsize from four lanes to three and a roadway resurfacing…
