Winnebago County Board seat vacant as Keith McDonald announces resignation

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Winnebago County Board Member Keith McDonald, who has represented District 6 for more than a decade, has resigned from his seat effective March 31, 2026.

His departure was formally acknowledged in a resolution included in the April 2 Operations & Administrative Committee agenda packet, which declares the District 6 seat vacant and triggers the process to appoint his successor.

McDonald announced his resignation in a personal statement posted to his Facebook page Tuesday night, saying, “I resigned from the county board tonight. My new job has me on the road 8 months out of the year and I can no longer represent Winnebago county the way that you deserve,” he wrote. “Im proud of the 10 years I spent on the board. My priority was always your tax dollars and how they were spent.”…
