A Genoa family has established a non-profit organization named Alana’s Wings of Hope to honor their 15-year-old daughter, Alana VanMeter, who died Sept. 3, 2025, from a pulmonary embolism. The family is launching the initiative to provide support for local students.
The non-profit serves students in the Genoa-Kingston area and is preparing for its first major fundraiser. The family has organized a cornhole tournament for May 30, where they plan to award a $1,500 scholarship to a graduating high school senior.
“As we’ve worked on it, it just feels like it’s grown a lot to not just being a promise, but to encompass kind of who Elena was and keep that remembering that love alive,” the family member said…
