Family of child who was hit by car at bus stop accepts $52 million settlement

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WKRC) – A family accepted a $52 million settlement after their child was struck by a vehicle while boarding a school bus at her bus stop.

According to court documents from the Winnebago County Court obtained by local outlet WIFR, the student, whose age was not released, was boarding her school bus from her bus stop at around 7 a.m. on January 10, 2025.

Although the bus driver activated the vehicle’s lights and had its yellow crossing arm and stop sign extended, Allen Pelton reportedly ignored all signals and struck the student. The victim reportedly suffered a traumatic brain injury and now requires 24-hour care and the use of a wheelchair…
