Man arrested after high-speed chase in Byron, accused of trying to swim away from police

BYRON, Ill. (WIFR) – A Rockford man faces more than a dozen charges after a high speed chase and river rescue Saturday afternoon.

Kyle Keith, 37, is accused of:

  • Aggravated fleeing to elude
  • Driving under the influence
  • Driving under the influence (BAC .08)
  • Improper Lane Usage
  • Disobeying a traffic control
  • Reckless driving
  • Illegal squealing/screeching tires
  • Driving on a sidewalk
  • Operating an uninsured vehicle
  • Speeding 26-34 miles per hour over the posted speed limit
  • Criminal damage to property

Around 3 p.m. April 4, Byron police say they got a report about a red Chevrolet Silverado swerving “all over both lanes” on Illinois Route 2.

An officer saw a vehicle matching the description and watched it turn west onto Illinois Route 72…
