Rockford PD will team up with Illinois law enforcement agencies for the 2026 “Click It or Ticket” campaign, a statewide traffic safety initiative running May 15 through May 26 during the busy Memorial Day travel period.

Police say officers will conduct high-visibility patrols during both daytime and overnight hours, specifically targeting seat belt violations. Drivers and passengers who are not properly restrained can expect to be stopped and ticketed as part of the enforcement effort.

Illinois Officials Focus on Preventing Fatal Crashes

Under Illinois law, all drivers and passengers are required to wear seat belts. State officials report seat belt usage climbed to 93 percent in 2025, but fatal crashes involving unrestrained occupants continue to be a major concern, particularly during nighttime travel.

The campaign comes as holiday traffic volume in expected to increase across northern Illinois, including heavily traveled corridors such as Interstate 90 and Interstate 39 near Rockford.

Funding for Campaign from IDOT Grant
