Freeport trees to be removed for construction project

Several large trees along Demeter Drive in Freeport are set to be removed as part of an upcoming construction project.

The trees, which are marked with a paint dot or a painted “X,” are located within the city right-of-way and need to be removed to facilitate the Demeter Drive Water Main and Street Reconstruction Project, according to a community announcement.

The city’s operations superintendent reviewed and selected the trees for removal due to reasons related to construction, safety, and long-term infrastructure.

During underground utility and roadway reconstruction projects, significant root disturbance is often unavoidable, according to the announcement.
