ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Village of Lena continues its recovery one month after a tornado caused significant damage, bringing the community together while facing substantial financial needs. Local fundraising efforts have garnered more than $200,000 for relief, yet requests for assistance have surpassed $1 million. The aftermath of the storm has seen an outpouring of community support, with volunteers aiding in cleanup and recovery efforts.
Lena Village President Steve Buss noted the sustained community support, expressing appreciation for the continuous help from volunteers and behind-the-scenes fundraising organizations. “I know we’ve all been talking about all the volunteers and everybody that came out to help. It’s still happening. Fundraising-wise, there’s some organizations that are doing some behind-the-scenes fundraising, which is greatly appreciated,” Buss said.
