Sobbing Kid Saved As Sacramento Cops Grab Him From I-80 Overpass

A sobbing juvenile was left dangling over the side of an I-80 overpass near Northgate Boulevard in Sacramento on Tuesday before officers pulled the child to safety, newly released footage shows. The rescue unfolded in seconds as officers leaned over the guardrail, grabbed the youth and hauled them back onto the sidewalk while traffic slowed on the freeway below. The tense moment was recorded on both a patrol dashcam and officers’ body-worn cameras.

The Sacramento Police Department said officers were dispatched after community members reported a person leaning over the railing of a freeway overpass, and that a juvenile was hanging from the guardrail when officers arrived and pulled them back to safety. The department later released dashcam and body-worn camera footage of the rescue, according to the New York Post.

In the video, officers are heard reassuring the child, telling them, “We got you,” as they hoist the juvenile back over the ledge. After the rescue, the child is escorted to a patrol vehicle while bystanders watch from nearby, the Post reports.

Officials released footage but offered few details

In a post on its official channels, the Sacramento Police Department thanked the community members who called in the situation and credited both dispatchers and officers for the rapid response. The department has not provided additional information about the child’s condition or what may have led up to the incident.
