Ruby’s Books, the family-owned independent bookstore that has been a fixture in Folsom’s Historic District since 2020, is making its biggest move yet. Owner Stacy Gould confirmed to What Now Sacramento that the store has purchased the building at 705 Sutter Street (directly across from its current location at 724 Sutter) for $1.67 million, with plans to transform it into a 6,000-square-foot bookstore that will more than triple the store’s current footprint. The move is expected to happen in late 2027, pending historic commission and city council approvals in August.
The new space will be a significant upgrade in every way. The existing building is roughly 4,000 square feet, and Gould plans to add an entirely new 2,000-square-foot second story, which will be dedicated entirely to the children’s section. To put that in perspective: the whole second floor will be the same size as the entire current Ruby’s Books store.
“The children’s section, we’re really hoping to make it geared towards kids and very interactive,” Gould said. “It’ll be a destination that families travel to, where kids can fall in love with books.”…
