Weather Turns Hot, south of I-80 storms

Clouds, light rain, and thunderstorms are passing over interior Northern California tonight and will continue into Monday. Temperatures will be slightly cooler than yesterday due to cloud cover, though still near normal for this time of year across the Sacramento Valley. Overnight temperatures will remain relatively cool, especially near the Delta, due to daily onshore winds and the Delta breeze, which are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph.

A warming trend begins Monday, with widespread triple-digit temperatures expected by Tuesday and Wednesday. Most of the Sacramento Valley will experience moderate HeatRisk during this period. Beyond the high temperatures, our primary concern involves monsoonal moisture moving into the area and continuing through mid-week.

This monsoonal push brings chances for showers and thunderstorms daily, with Monday and Tuesday being the most widespread impact days. The best chances for thunderstorms today and into Monday are south of Interstate 80 along the Sierra. These chances increase on Monday and Tuesday, though there is still uncertainty regarding how widespread these storms will be outside the mountains.
