Driver killed in fiery crash on Hazel Avenue near Highway 50

A driver was killed early Tuesday after a vehicle crashed into a pole and caught fire near the Nimbus Fish Hatchery, according to California Highway Patrol logs.

The crash was reported about 1:15 a.m. near the intersection of Hazel Avenue and Gold Country Boulevard, just north of Highway 50. CHP incident logs said a Toyota Camry overturned and caught fire after apparently striking a light pole.

Emergency crews responding to the crash confirmed just after 1:30 a.m. that the driver had died inside the vehicle. CHP logs said the vehicle had been traveling south on Hazel Avenue over the American River bridge before the crash…
