A 15-year-old girl has died from injuries she suffered when a vehicle struck her at the intersection of Bruceville and Calvine roads in South Sacramento. Police officers responding to the scene on September 11 found the teen down in the roadway and rushed her to a hospital for treatment. She died from her injuries, and investigators learned of her death on Sunday.
According to CBS Sacramento, the driver involved in the crash remained at the scene, and police said driving under the influence did not appear to be a factor. The girl’s identity has not been released to the public, pending notification of her family. The Sacramento Police Department is asking any witnesses or people with information about the crash to come forward and contact the department.
A Dangerous Intersection Near a Busy Campus
The crash site sits adjacent to the 150-acre main campus of Cosumnes River College and nearby regional commercial centers, according to the Los Rios Community College District, meaning the intersection connects heavy commuter and student traffic between South Sacramento and Elk Grove. Both Bruceville Road and Calvine Road are designated arterial corridors under the City of Sacramento’s Vision Zero framework, which monitors high-injury roadways for pedestrian safety upgrades, per the city’s own planning documents. Sacramento originally adopted its Vision Zero Action Plan in 2018 with the goal of eliminating traffic fatalities altogether.
Those safety concerns are backed up by state numbers. The California Office of Traffic Safety ranked Sacramento worst overall among 15 large California cities on its composite crash safety index for 2023, placing the city first for speed-related crashes and alcohol-involved victims that year. The same agency reported 297 pedestrian injury and fatality victims in Sacramento in 2023, including 20 victims under the age of 15 — a toll that placed the city fourth worst among its peer cities for total pedestrian casualties.
A Corridor With a Grim Recent History
This is not the first fatal incident along the Calvine Road corridor in recent memory. Just over a week before this crash, a pedestrian was killed by a train near Calvine Road, marking the fourth fatal pedestrian strike in the area since 2025. A single-vehicle fatal crash also occurred near Frontera Drive in December 2025.
