How low will snow levels drop in California with the incoming Atmospheric River?

The National Weather Service Sacramento office is closely monitoring the approach of a potent low-pressure system from the Pacific, heralding the return of widespread precipitation across Northern California.

Residents are advised to brace for impactful weather conditions starting Tuesday evening, with the northern Sacramento Valley experiencing precipitation chances earlier than the rest of the region.

According to the latest forecast, periods of moderate to heavy rainfall are anticipated between Wednesday and Friday afternoons, creating a soggy midweek for Northern California.

The southern and middle Sacramento Valley, along with the northern San Joaquin Valley, have a substantial 65-95% probability of receiving at least an inch of rain during this period. In Shasta County and the foothills and mountains, there is a 55-90% likelihood of seeing at least two inches of rain.

The bulk of the moderate to heavy precipitation is expected on Wednesday and Thursday, with lingering showers extending into Friday and early Saturday.
