The National Weather Service (NWS) Sacramento office has issued a Winter Storm Warning as heavy mountain snowfall is forecasted to move in starting tomorrow and persisting through the end of the week.
The heaviest snowfall is anticipated late Wednesday through early Thursday, prompting authorities to discourage mountain travel during this period.
Residents and travelers are strongly advised to stay updated on the latest forecasts and road conditions before embarking on any journeys.
Periods of moderate to heavy mountain snow are likely, with the peak snowfall expected between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday.
Snow levels are projected to start at approximately 6000-7000 feet on Wednesday, then gradually lowering to 4000-5000 feet on Thursday. Lingering snow showers on Friday may have snow levels around 3000-4000 feet.
The NWS emphasizes that elevated locations, including sections of I-80 and HWY-50, have a high probability (70-100%) of experiencing over one foot of snow accumulation at 6000 feet.
