Police standoff with man on roof ends in arrest after multiple hours

(FOX40.COM) — A man was taken into custody after being in a standoff with police for multiple hours in Woodland on Tuesday.

Maxwell Elementary School went on lockdown “out of an abundance of caution,” as Woodland Police officers were negotiating with a suspect, who is on the roof of a nearby residence and was reportedly to be possibly armed.

Police said the man is wanted on the suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

According to police, officers went to the area of Ashley Avenue and South Beamer Street around 1:30 p.m. to investigate “a call for service.”

The police activity didn’t’ involve the school and the suspect wasn’t on any school grounds.

At 3:25 p.m., school officials said all students and staff are safe and it would be awhile before students are released.

Nearly an hour later, police said students will be transported to Woodland High School through a school bus. School officials said parents are required to pick up their children at the Woodland High School small gym on 21 N. West St — near the administration parking lot and pool.
