On Wednesday, at approximately 1 pm, Joseph Kerr Middle School faced a tense situation as it was placed on lockdown following a bomb threat. A student received a text message indicating the presence of a bomb on campus, prompting an immediate response from authorities.
To ensure the safety of students and staff, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office deployed three expert explosive detection dogs—Auggie, Yogi, and Dane. These highly trained canines specialize in detecting explosives and played a crucial role in assessing the potential threat, investigators said.
With precision and unwavering focus, Auggie, Yogi, and Dane meticulously searched the school premises. Leveraging their acute sense of smell and extensive training, the K-9 team combed through classrooms, hallways, and common areas. Following a thorough investigation, the trio of canines confirmed that there was no evidence of any suspicious items or explosives within the school grounds, the sheriff’s office said.
The swift and efficient response by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the skillful work of the explosive detection dogs helped ensure the safety of everyone at Joseph Kerr Middle School. Authorities are now working to identify the source of the bomb threat, and additional security measures may be implemented as deemed necessary.
