California Blizzard warning extended into Monday; Thunderstorm potential develops to the north

The National Weather Service’s Sacramento office issued a weather advisory today, forecasting a 10-20% probability of thunderstorms in the Sacramento Valley, northern foothills, and mountains for this afternoon and evening.

Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant as the impacts may include small hail, lightning, brief heavy rain, gusty winds, and the possibility of funnel clouds.

“If you see a flash, dash inside!” warns the National Weather Service, emphasizing the importance of taking shelter immediately in the event of lightning. The unpredictable nature of thunderstorms underscores the need for residents to stay informed and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.

In addition to the thunderstorm risk, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 4 am Monday for areas above 6500 feet. Meanwhile, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for elevations above 3000 feet, with an additional 1-2 feet of snow expected above 4000 feet. The Sacramento region is bracing for a prolonged period of wintry weather, with more snowfall anticipated on Monday and Tuesday.
