Meet the goats that are helping keep California safe from wildfires

(FOX40.COM) — The City of Roseville is offering the public a special opportunity to get up close and personal with the goats that are seen around the region helping reduce the risk of wildfires.

A special pop-up goat meet and greet will take place at Maidu Regional Park and Mahany Park on June 24 and June 25 respectively.

Why are goats used for wildfire prevention in California?

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day and will offer the opportunity to pet baby goats, create goat-themed crafts and have some sweet treats.

Roseville is one of many cities in the Sacramento region that utilizes hundreds of goats every year to help knockdown built up vegetation in preserved open spaces.

This helps reduce the amount of potential fuel if a fire were to start or work into these protected natural spaces.
