Confidence grows about major heat event hitting California over July 4th holiday, NWS warns

The National Weather Service (NWS) Sacramento office has forecasted seasonable, dry, and periodically breezy weather to persist through the remainder of this week and into the weekend.

However, next week is expected to bring a return of hot and very dry conditions, likely elevating heat risk and raising fire weather concerns.

Meteorological models indicate a flat upper-level pattern into the weekend, with troughing expected late Saturday.

This will keep high temperatures near to slightly above normal, with Valley highs ranging from the low to upper 90s.

A Delta breeze with local gusts up to 20 mph is possible during late afternoons and early evenings, providing some cooling but also briefly enhancing local fire weather concerns.

Over the weekend, Northern California will be situated between two ridges, with a weak trough overhead as high pressure builds to the west and east.

Despite the trough, heights will increase, keeping temperatures near normal through the weekend.

By Monday, the ridge over the Pacific will begin to build eastward over California, further increasing heights and initiating a warming trend.
