Cases of fake QR codes on stickers affixed to real parking meter signs have been reported recently in Southern California. In Redondo Beach, the scam involved 150 parking meters where stickers with a fake QR were placed near legitimate ParkMobile and PayByPhone labels, NBCLA reported. The QR codes led to a fake website that asked people for their payment information.
