See local foodies gather to celebrate Jimboy’s with taco eating contest

Sacramento Jimboy’s Tacos celebrated 70 years in business Wednesday with a taco eating contest between local media personalities and dignitaries who competed against Jimboy’s CEO Erik Freeman.

The contestants, which included Sacramento Bee food writer Benjy Egel, vied to be the first to finish seven tacos.

ABC’s Mark S. Allen came in first place, licking his tray, after cramming down all seven tacos in a suit and tie at the restaurant’s Folsom location.

Egel tied for second in a field that also included Big Al of Good Day Sacramento, KCRA’s Tamara Berg, Folsom Times’ Adam Frick, Style Magazine’s Emiley Mohr and Comstock’s Judy Farah.

“I wasn’t cute about it. There’s grease everywhere but I ate six out of seven. I feel pretty good about that,” said Egel. “Mark S. Allen is a machine.”

The company started in Kings Beach in 1954 and has more than 40 locations in California and Nevada.
