Roseville adds new traffic lights with flashing yellow arrows to ease left turns

(FOX40.COM) — The City of Roseville recently activated new traffic lights intending to make it easier for drivers to make left turns.

“No more waiting at the red light to turn left when it’s clear to go,” city officials said . “These signals help move more traffic through the intersection, improving efficiency and reducing unnecessary vehicle idling.”

The new lights flash yellow arrows.

“When the yellow arrow flashes, drivers must yield to oncoming traffic and bicyclists,” city officials said. “When there is a safe gap in traffic, proceed to make the left turn with caution. Remember, oncoming traffic has a green light.”

The lights have been installed at two new locations; Stone Point Drive at North Sunrise Avenue and Stone Point Drive and Rocky Ridge Drive. Officials said the signal still provides the comfort of a protected, or solid, left turn arrow during heavy oncoming traffic. For safety, the signal will turn red when the pedestrian crossing button is pushed.

Flashing yellow arrow intersections are proven to be more efficient, reducing traffic delays, according to the City of Roseville.
