(FOX40.COM) — For nearly 80 years Herky T. Hornet has been the one and only mascot for Sacramento State, but that could change.
On Oct. 9, Sacramento State President Luke Wood emailed students that the Associated Student Inc. (ASI) passed a resolution proposing to have a squirrel be the CSU’s second spirit mascot.
Sacramento State’s squirrels now have their own Instagram account
Those familiar with the campus will know that squirrels are a common site as they make the hundreds of trees on campus their homes.
According to the resolution, the proposal follows “numerous requests” from students to have a squirrel as an official mascot.
A survey was created to determine if a squirrel will become Sac State’s second mascot, if Herky is to be kept as the sole mascot and if there should be a consideration for a different second spirit mascot.
The survey closes on Friday.
