SACRAMENTO, CA — Northern California is in for a weather shake-up as a swift storm system moves through the region Monday, bringing rain, mountain snow, and the chance for thunderstorms. The National Weather Service Sacramento forecasts that the system will bring gusty winds and potentially impactful precipitation to interior NorCal.
Monday’s storm is expected to bring rain across the Sacramento Valley and foothills, with a 60-90% chance of an inch or more in the northern areas. Snow will be concentrated above 6,000 feet, with passes possibly accumulating up to 8 inches. Drivers should plan for significant travel delays, particularly as Monday wraps up a holiday weekend. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Sierra at higher elevations from 10 a.m. Monday until midnight.
Wind gusts up to 30 mph are likely in the Delta and Sacramento Valley, with gusts reaching 45 mph over the Sierra. These conditions could add challenges for travel, especially in mountain areas.
A second storm system is anticipated later in the week, bringing additional rain and snow chances into the weekend.
