Interior Northern California is bracing for a week of active weather as a fast-moving storm brings widespread rain and mountain snow today, the NWS Sacramento office stated. This system, moving quickly through the region, has already delivered up to an inch of rain in parts of the Sacramento Valley, with brief, heavy downpours expected in isolated areas this afternoon. Snowfall is also piling up in the Sierra, where locations above 6,000 feet are forecasted to see accumulations of 6 inches or more by Tuesday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until midnight, according to the NWS.
After a brief lull in the action on Tuesday, with mostly dry weather and seasonal temperatures, another significant storm will roll in on Wednesday, the NWS added. This second system promises additional rain across the Valley and foothills, with isolated thunderstorms and more mountain snow extending into the weekend. The mild break on Tuesday will bring cooler morning temperatures in the 40s for most lower elevations and potential patchy frost above 2,000 feet.
