Atmospheric River Update: Heavy Rain, Flood Risks, Strong Winds to Hit Northern California

The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued multiple alerts ahead of a significant storm system expected to impact the region through Saturday morning. Snow levels will rise through Thursday, transitioning to rain by the end of the week, before dropping again to bring weekend snowfall over the Sierra.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for the northern and central Sacramento Valley from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 4 p.m. Wednesday, with gusts up to 45 mph. Residents should prepare for hazardous driving conditions, flying debris, and downed branches.

Additionally, a Flood Watch remains active through 4 a.m. Saturday for areas below 3,000 feet. Rivers, creeks, and streams may swell rapidly, leading to potential road ponding and localized flooding. Stay weather-aware and avoid flooded areas.
