West Sacramento introduces new parking rates and fines

(FOX40.COM) — Some costly changes are on the way for drivers in West Sacramento. Soon, motorists will be paying more for parking and parking violations.

In just a few weeks, those who park near Sutter Health Park will pay more for meter parking. West Sac will implement tiered parking based on time, so the longer you park in a spot, the more it will cost.

As the city prepares for a rush of visitors to the area with the A’s arriving in West Sacramento, it’s making changes to parking fees near Sutter Health Park.

The tiered parking meter rates are established to regulate the duration of street parking, promoting vehicle turnover and encouraging shorter parking stays.

“It’s a little bit inevitable with the A’s coming that they’re just going to have to do more parking,” said Aaron Burbank, a local.

Those new parking rates will see a 25-cent to 75-cent increase per hour. For the first couple of hours, it’s just $2 per hour. That third hour will cost $3.50 per hour to discourage people from staying too long. Drivers who stay for four hours or longer will pay $4.50 per hour, which encourages people to free up parking spots faster.
