Folsom police searching for suspects who stole locks to make replica mailbox keys

Folsom police are searching for suspects who may have stolen mail after investigators found keys that were created through stealing U.S. Postal Service’s mailbox keys and locks.

The search began after a resident called officers this week to the 300 block Montrose Drive to report a vehicle burglary involving a gray sedan. Investigators at the scene found the stolen vehicle but a driver fled and abandoned the sedan after a pursuit, police said online.

As police investigated, they learned that multiple vehicle burglaries had happened on that same block. Officers said they found stolen items from residents inside the sedan.

It was not immediately clear if each alleged burglary happened on the same day.

Officers also found homemade mailbox keys. Locks had been from pilfered the U.S. Postal Service mailboxes, police said. The suspect’s vehicle also had other “tools” to make those keys, police said.

It appeared the suspects had used the stolen locks to test out their homemade keys, police said.
