An armed robbery suspect who barricaded himself Monday night in Oak Park is now in custody after surrendering to Sacramento police early Tuesday.
What began about 8:30 p.m. Monday as a robbery investigation in the 3200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard turned into a standoff with officers and a Sacramento police tactical team that stretched into the early hours of Tuesday.
By 11:30 p.m., crisis negotiators and an armored vehicle were at the scene to try to coax the suspect out, as officers closed down a long stretch of Martin Luther King, said police spokesman Officer Anthony Gamble.
But the standoff extended for several more hours before the suspect finally surrendered to Sacramento police SWAT officers just after 3 a.m., Gamble said.
No one was hurt. The suspect, who was not named by police, was taken into custody.
