Sacramento man sentenced to over 10 years for fentanyl possession

SACRAMENTO, California — Luis Vasquez-Lopez, a 47-year-old Mexican national residing in Sacramento, has been sentenced to 10 years and one month in prison for possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.

On May 22, 2023, law enforcement officers stopped Vasquez-Lopez’s vehicle in Sacramento, where they discovered a large brick of fentanyl, a digital scale with residue, and a loaded 9 mm handgun, according to court documents.
