California Faces Sleep Crisis: Report Highlights Gaps in Helping Americans Get a Full Night’s Rest

A nationwide sleep health crisis is hitting Sacramento and beyond, costing the U.S. economy $411 billion annually, according to the RAND Corporation.

A new 2025 State of Sleep Health Report from Dreem Health, a digital sleep clinic under The Sunrise Group, reveals that while 97% of Americans recognize sleep’s importance, only 7% wake up feeling well-rested daily.

“The problem is patients don’t know where to turn,” says Dr. William Lu, Medical Director at Dreem Health. Stress (54%), noise and light (44%), and snoring or breathing issues (21%) are major culprits disrupting sleep, leading to difficulty concentrating (41%), mood swings (40%), and anxiety (31%).
